Just a decade ago, a business really had just one option for music: Muzak. Muzak knew it, too, often charging more than $100 per month. Times have changed. A business can get music from dozens of sources, including Pandora, Spotify, Google and now Apple Music, for as little as $4.95 per month.

So why would we start a new business music service now, much less one priced at $19.95 per month? Because most of the options available, as great as they are for consumers, suck as business music. We designed Eos from the ground up to be perfect business music. Here’s how:

It’s legal.

When you play music in a business, you gotta pay the people that own the music, and even the premium consumer services don’t cover those fees. If you get caught playing unlicensed music, the music police will crush you. Don’t believe it? Google the words “ASCAP sues” or “BMI lawsuit”.

It has broader appeal.

Eos channels have broader appeal than other services. Programming music for use in business environments is completely different than programming for consumers. Traditional music formats like are simply too narrow to work in most business applications. Sure, there’s the Jamaican jerk shack where “all reggae, all the time” works. The Grateful Dead channel is great for a weed dispensary, but most businesses need music that appeals to the widest possible range of demographics, from millennials to boomers. Eos Broad Spectrum Programming™, or “BSP”, is designed to do just that. The music crosses traditional boundaries of genre and generation, but it all plays nicely together.

It’s less repetitive.

Most business music drives employees nuts. The same songs, day after day. BSP channels naturally include significantly larger playlists than traditional narrow formats. In addition, channel playlists change at least once daily. Less repetition means happier employees.

It’s business-safe.

Eos is safe. With consumer services you can be sure of one thing: there’s something to offend everyone. Eos music is screened for both lyrics and subject matter.

It uses minimal data transfer.

The streaming services are locked in a battle to have the highest streaming bitrate, with some advertising CD-quality sound. That’s great for consumers, but it’s wasteful for a business, where the music plays in the background on ceiling speakers 12 feet above you. Eos uses a state of the art High-Efficiency Advanced Audio Coding, or “HE-AAC”, to achieve good quality sound in just 22 kbps, allowing a reduction in data transfer of as much as 90%.

There’s no dead air between songs.

Many of the songs on the streaming services have “leads” and “tails”. These are “dead air” that often results from ripping songs from CDs, and the result is silent gaps between songs, and a lousy music experience for your customers.

Song volume is normalized.

The volume of songs on the streaming services varies widely. You can barely hear one song, but the next one blows your eardrums out. Eos maintains a consistent volume level from song to song.
